As discussed at the bottom of the Network Design for Squeezebox page, the Slim Devices SB3 (maybe other models as well) can act as a wireless bridge for a wired network device. In my case, I have a network printer connected to the SB3’s wired Ethernet port and the SB3 connects to the wireless network in my situation.
The undocumented step in to (re)configure the SB3 network settings with a wired device connected (bridging is not enabled by default):
- Unplug SB3 from transformer, reconnect after a few seconds
- SlimDevices logo will appear, followed by the usual network configuration (SSID, WPA authentication, DHCP, etc.)
- A new network configuration option will appear: “Enable bridging”, select “Yes”
- Configure network as usual, wired device can now secure a DHCP lease and access devices on the wireless network
The wired device will continue to have uninterrupted network access regardless of whether the connected SB3 is turned on or off.
Wonderful, a 10 seconds power interuption does the trick. Thanks for the tip!
